Premier Wade MacLauchlan likes to boast the economy of Canada’s smallest province is “on a tear.”

The upbeat pronouncement from the former University of PEI president, who described himself as the province’s ‘optimist-in-chief’ when he became premier in 2015, might sound like a catchy slogan from a politician who will likely be facing the electorate next year.
