By Andrew Macdonald

Geoff Regan, Speaker of the House of Commons, led the vote margin for the 10 Liberals elected Oct. 21 to go to Ottawa.

Regan, a second generation politico, won the riding of Halifax West with 16,396 votes more than the second place contender. He was first elected in 1993, lost his seat in 1997, won again in 2000 and as maintained it since.

The Liberal vote margins of victory in Nova Scotia were robust and healthy, aside from Liberal Lenore Zann’s win in Cumberland-Colchester.

Besides Regan’s vote plurality, here are the other Liberal margins of victory over their nearest contenders:

Darren Fisher -Dartmouth: 9,531
Kody Blois – Kings-Hants: 8,902
Darryl Samson – Sackville-Eastern Shore: 8,063
Sean Fraser – Central Nova: 7,517
Bernadette Jordan – South Shore St. Margarets:7,143.
Andy Fillmore – Halifax: 6,494
Mike Kelloway – Cape Breton Canso: 1,619
Jaime Battiste – Sydney Victoria: 1,308
Lenore Zann – Cumberland Colchester: 453
