Halifax Port: Fritz Burns King Dossier Part III

The official Bio of Fritz King: Atlantic Container Line’s managing director for Canada, based in Halifax:

Fritz  Burns King was born in Barrington on the South Shore in 1944, and grew up and was formally educated in Nova Scotia.

King briefly attended Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. He obtained his first taste of international marine shipping while working in Halifax in the mid-1960s as a summer intern for local industry icon, Ted Huxtable, of F. K. Warren Ltd..

King has attained certificates of Quality and Customer Service Management from Philip Crosby & Associates of Winter Park, Fla.; Business Management from Charles Smith and Associates, London, England; and Sales Administration accreditation from Tack International U.K., as well as a variety of other specific business credentialing related to disciplines including Career Map’s Maritime Security.

His experience in the maritime industry began as an acting company boarding agent, handling pool car operations and import and export terminal clerical functions.

King spent two years commuting between Halifax and Montreal during the open and closed navigation seasons.

King joined Atlantic Container Line in Toronto on Feb. 2, 1971, as a pricing analyst. He moved into sales and eventually held positions as regional sales manager, Canadian sales and marketing manager, and manager Atlantic Canada Region.

Presently, King is celebrating 50 years as ACL Managing Director Canada.

Present active business affiliations include director and chair of the Halifax Employers Association, past chair of Maritime Seacoast Advisory Board, director of the Shipping Federation of Canada, member of the Atlantic Forum Environmental Committee, former director to the Missions to Seafarers Halifax, Maritime representative to the Canadian Coast Guard’s Marine Advisory Board Ottawa, advisor to the Transport Strategy Committee for the Province of Nova Scotia, member CMAC, member of the Halifax Smartport and Port Security forums.

King is a founding member of the Canadian Swedish Business Association, an organization that has been extremely successful in finding ways of forging new business and academic opportunities between the two countries.

King is married to his wife Margaret and has three grown children. They reside in Halifax.

Outside interests included coaching both youth baseball and hockey. He belongs to a number of sports associations, enjoys reading, golfing and is an avid fan of thoroughbred horse racing.
