MacPolitics: NS Liberal Board – AKA Dr. Paul Doucette – Appoints New Executive Director

Alxys Chamberlain is the newly appointed executive director of the NS Liberal Party.

She comes with some electioneering experience.

In a recent note board president, Dr. Paul Doucette welcomed Chamberlain aboard.

Doucette is a medical partner with Dr. John Gillis, in Washmill Lake’s Pain Clinic, a former Liberal president.

Dr. John Gillis, a former NS Liberal president worked closely with new Grit party executive director, Alxys Chamberlain on Randy Delorey’s failed leadership bid. He is a partner with current Liberal president Dr. Paul Doucette in Washmill Lake’s The Pain Clinic.

Gillis endorsed an entire slate with Doucette, and has worked aside Chamberlain. They worked together on the failed leadership bid of Randy Delorey.

“On behalf of the board of directors of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, it gives me great pleasure to announce that our new Executive Director will be Alxys Chamberlain”, said Doucette in a recent public statement.

“After an extensive arm’s-length search with a professional recruiter, assisted by a search committee appointed by the board, we have selected Alxys as the candidate best-suited to carry out our goals of renewal, re-energization, and readiness to govern in 2025,” added Doucette.

Alxys obtained a bachelor of social work degree (with distinction) from Dalhousie University.

She has worked for the government of Nova Scotia as the executive assistant to the Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage, Seniors and Gaelic Affairs – that would be former minister Leo Glavine.

Dr. Paul Doucette is the current NS Liberal president and his entire slate was elected as the incoming NS Liberal board last winter.

She has also toiled for the Liberal Party of Canada as an Atlantic senior field organizer and ran as the federal Liberal candidate for West Nova in the 2021 campaign.

“As a candidate for nomination in Kings West, Alxys effectively doubled its membership. She has held substantial roles on several by-elections, leadership campaigns, and provincial and federal general elections throughout the province,” noted Doucette.

“Her superior communication skills include extensive French-language training,” he added.

“I have dedicated my professional career and personal time to the Liberal Party. I have seen first-hand the importance of fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment and the work needed to break down existing barriers. I can and will make it a priority to champion inclusivity within our Party. This is truly the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Chamberlain

It is understood Chamberlain bested an application from HRM’s Tracey Preeper, a name that dates to the John Savage era.

Chamberlain replaces Mike Mercer who resigned from the post last winter, following a scandal of stolen money from the Grit party bank accounts. The Notebook broke the past board’s attempt to cover up the theft of more than $150,000 by a since-fired finance director.
