Northwoodcare Group Inc. – known since 1962 as Northwood – the seniors care and nursing home operator – is on the hunt for a new CEO.
Incumbent CEO Janet Simm is retiring from the post at the end of June. “June 28th, 2024 is my last day.”
In a recent chat with The Macdonald Notebook, Simm was asked if she would look for a new job, or simply retire from work.
“There are no definitive plans. I will travel initially. (Returning to a new job) is certainly not out of the question. There are no immediate plans.”
She has been CEO of Northwood Corporate for the last decade.
Simm leaves Northwood with a strong bright future, which includes developing more nursing complexes in Bedford, Fall River & Preston.
“I think it is a good time for me and a good time for the organization”, she says of her retirement.
Simm’s leadership role at Northwood was navigating COVID, which claimed many lives at its Halifax complex, and she had to deal with the floods in Bedford.
“We have been through some challenging times with COVID, also the wildfires and major flood damage last July with our Bedford site,” she tells The Macdonald Notebook. “It’s a great testimony to the whole team on how strong we are.”
“Hopefully, we will have some normalcy. The good news is those challenges sure proved the strength of the organization, the resiliency, and continue to move in innovative and creative ways forward.”
Simm leaves Northwood as it is in the planning stages for three new long-term care facilities. “We will continue to be busy and there is a lot of growth opportunity in the future.”
Simm is “proud of the work” she has done at Northwood, “and, I am proud of the team. I think one of my greatest accomplishments at Northwood is bringing together the team that is going to lead us into the future.”
Northwood has hired a head hunting firm to find a replacement for Simm.
