  • MacPolitics: Will Tim Houston Call A November Election?

A sure sign the Progressive Conservative Tim Houston government won’t call an election this month for Sept 17th, after all, comes with news the NS Legislature will hold a session opening Sept 5th, 2024.

Earlier in June there had been political chatter that an election would come on Sept 17th, 2024.

But the Leg is going to resume its spring session this fall on Sept 5th.

There will be no Speech from the Throne. It’s a continuation of the spring session, so just government bills will make up the work of the fall session.

The government’s legislation, however, could pair well for a November election,

A sign of a November election could be Tory nomination activity in September while the House sits.

All current Tory MLAs have been nominated now.

If there is a lot of activity for Tory nods in seats the party does not hold in September then there is a November possibility of an election.

The next scheduled election is set for the summer of 2025, but Premier Houston has not ruled out an earlier election. A vote in November would fall several months from the third-year term of the government.
