  • MacPolitics: Majority Of Canadians Would Favour Kamala Harris As Next U.S. President – Poll

A new poll from Narrative Research, shows half of Canadians favour Kamala Harris over Donald Trump as the next President of the United States, finds a new poll, released this week by Narrative Research, based in Halifax.

The same half of Canadians “are hopeful for future Canada-US relations if Harris were to become leader, adds the polling firm.

“Canadians are hoping the United States elects its first woman president in November, according to our recent poll. Our results reveal that half of Canadians (53%) would prefer to see Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States, ahead of Donald Trump (22%). Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has since left the race and endorsed Donald Trump, received 5% support from our Canadian panel members, while 10% indicated “none of the above” and another 10% remain unsure,” the pollster says.

“Harris’s highest Canadian support comes from the 55+ demographic (63%), with nearly equal support from Baby Boomer males and females (64% and 62%, respectively). Trump performs strongest among younger Canadian males, with 48% of Gen Z males and 45% of Millennial males preferring Trump, compared to just 15% of Gen Z females and 24% of Millennial females,” finds Narrative.

“Overall, the results show a stronger support for Trump among Canadian men (49% for Trump vs. 30% for Harris), compared with women (56% for Harris vs. 14% for Trump),” the poll finds.

The poll also explored Canadians’ views on Kamala Harris becoming the Democratic nominee, revealing that over half of respondents (53%) would feel more hopeful about the future of Canada-U.S. relations under her leadership. One-quarter of Canadians (23%) feel neutral, while 15% would be less hopeful about future relations with the US under a Harris presidency, adds Narrative Research.

Results are from an online survey conducted in partnership between Narrative Research and the Logit Group. The survey was conducted between August 9–10, 2024, with 1,230 Canadians from the Logit Group’s online Canadian Omnibus. Data were weighted based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region to reflect actual population distribution. The margin of error for this poll does not apply to this specific poll.
