Updated: 12:30 p.m. Sunday: Tim Houston has called the election today for Nov 26th, 2024.
By Andrew Macdonald
Posted 5 a.m., Sunday: Progressive Conservative Premier Tim Houston at noon hour today (Sunday, Oct. 27th, 2024) will call a snap election, only three years into his four-year mandate.
Premier Houston will visit with outgoing Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor Art LeBlanc at 12 p.m., to drop the writ and call an election for Nov. 26th, 2024.
Macdonald Notebook insiders/Notebook readers knew a month ago that Nov. 26 would be election day!
The first campaign stop today at 1 p.m. for the Houston Tories will be in Bedford – a sure sign the Tories would like to win the former seat held by Liberal Kelly Regan. The Tory event this afternoon will be held at the Village Tap House in West Bedford.
Proof that The Macdonald Notebook gets it first and gets it accurate can be seen in the following articles from Sept. 29:
MacPolitics: Mark This Date Down For NS Election! – Published Sept 29th, 2024.
By Andrew Macdonald
My prediction for the next Nova Scotia election is that the vote will be held after the October 19 municipal elections.
The date I predict for the NS election will be on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
It means Premier Tim Houston will go to the polls in the third year of his mandate, taking a winning strategy from the pages of Honest, It’s John Buchanan.
Tory Buchanan won four historic back-to-back majorities and often called the election while he was in his third term. That was the case in the elections of 1981-1984.
Houston’s political hero is Buchanan. Buchanan took a $500,000 debt in 1978 and by the time he left office in 1992, the total debt for the NS government climbed to a commanding $12 billion.
Houston as Tory premier is not a fiscal conservative, he spends money here, there and everywhere. I think Houston is in fact left of the NDP party. He is neither parsimonious with tax-paying dollars, nor is he a true Red Tory.
So that is the date I suggest for a NS vote: Nov. 26. You read it here first in my Macdonald Notebook.
That was our Sept. 29 prediction. Not a bad batting average. At noon today – Sunday – Premier Houston will in fact call the election for Nov. 26 — 30 days from today.
