Remembrance Day: Why Your Realtor Won’t Call You Back On Monday

There is a reason why a realtor won’t call you back Monday, Nov. 11th, nor do a listing, nor a purchase, nor write up a sales offer for you.

In recent years, Nova Scotia’s government passed legislation forbidding a realtor from listing a home, selling a home or even conducting an open house on Remembrance Day.

The law specifically states trading real property is forbidden on Nov. 11.

The Remembrance Day Act stipulates that realtors can’t work on that day, explains a spokesperson for the Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission, which regulates brokers and realtors in this province.

It’s the only day in the calendar that the province’s 1,400 licensed realtors can’t work in this province, or even take a phone call or send emails to a client, although they can work on Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

And, that’s why you won’t hear from your realtor on Monday.

On a side note, veterans also do not like to see Nov 11th described as a ‘holiday”. They say such a description takes away from the seriousness of a day of reflection and remembrance of many who gave the ultimate sacrifice of the freedoms we enjoy today.
