Prominent Dartmouth undertaker Donald K. Walker says the funeral trend in metro Halifax and rural Nova Scotia these days is for cremation, rather than a traditional casket and burial.

That can create financial challenges for funeral homes because the cost of cremation is around $1,500, while a traditional sendoff can cost from $4,000 to $10,000.
