With a byelection set for May 21, the day after the Victoria Day holiday, the Nova Scotia Liberal party has nominated Pictou County councillor Mary Wooldridge-Elliott as its candidate.

She is a lifelong resident of Pictou West. In 2020, she was elected councillor for District Four and currently serves on multiple committees.

“I’m thrilled to be nominated as the Liberal candidate for Pictou West. Our province is facing generational crises in housing and affordability that have not been addressed by the Houston Conservatives,” said Wooldridge-Elliott.

She has spent 20 years working in retail and has been a bus driver for Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education for over 22 years.

Liberal leader Zach Churchill says, “I’m so pleased to have Mary represent our party in this byelection. Families in Pictou West are facing the consequences of inaction from the Houston government on key files like affordability, housing, and healthcare. I know that Mary is the right person to tackle these issues and I look forward to having her on our team to represent the constituents of Pictou West.”
